About Us HouseTexture

Housetexture workspace with home decor samples, textures, materials, and practical styling resources.

Where HouseTexture Began

HouseTexture grew out of real experience with home surfaces, not Pinterest boards or mood rooms. Early on, there were plenty of lessons learned the hard way paint that peeled because the surface wasn’t prepped right, plaster textures that looked great in the store and wrong on the wall, and finish choices that seemed fine until the light changed or the first damp season hit.

Those experiences, more than anything else, shaped how we approach every guide and recommendation on this site.

The goal is simple: give people the kind of information that would have saved us money, time, and bad purchases back when we were still figuring it out ourselves.

What You’ll Find Here

We write for homeowners and decorators who want straight answers, not sales content or trend roundups. Our content covers the full range of surface and texture decisions, including:

  • Wall Finishes and Textures: types, uses, and what actually holds up in living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms
  • Surface Materials: practical comparisons of plaster, wood panelling, stone cladding, and paint finishes, with honest trade-offs on cost, durability, and application
  • Application and Prep: mix ratios, surface prep, common mistakes, and what to do when something goes wrong
  • Maintenance and Seasonal Care: keeping textured surfaces looking right without unnecessary products or rework

Every guide is grounded in hands-on experience or thorough research into where real surface and finish projects tend to go wrong.

How We Think About This

We skip the inspiration content and focus on the decisions that actually matter when you’re standing in front of a wall with a roller or a sample pot.

When we cover surface materials, we break down the real trade-offs between cost, finish quality, and room suitability. When a product or method has a common failure point, we say so plainly instead of glossing over it. When prep work matters more than the finish itself, we lead with that.

The standard we hold everything to is this: would this genuinely help someone working through a real surface or texture decision? If not, it doesn’t belong here.
